i think this is my new favourite song:

reach for the sky

when i was young i was invincible
i found myself not thinking twice
i never thought about no future
it's just a roll of the dice

but the day may come when you've got something to lose
and just when you think you're done paying dues
you say to yourself 'dear, god what have i done?'
and hope its not to late cause tomorrow may never come

reach for the sky cause tomorrow may never come
reach for the sky cause tomorrow may never come

yesterday is history
and tomorrow is a mystery
but i'm living right now
it's just about how it's you and me

you can run you can hide
just like bonnie and clyde
reach for the sky
i ain't never gonna die
and i thank the lord for the love that i have found
and hold you tight cause tomorrow may never come

reach for the sky cause tomorrow may never come
reach for the sky cause tomorrow may never come

so if you please take this moment
try if you can to make it last
don't think about no future
and just forget about the past
and make it last

reach for the sky cause tomorrow may never come
(reach for the sky i ain't never going down)
reach for the sky cause tomorrow may never come
(reach for the sky i ain't never coming down)
reach for the sky cause tomorrow may never come
(reach for the sky i ain't never going down)

since i'm not working the rest of the summer, and probably going back to school in the fall, i'm just spending as much of my time as i can writing.

this may be the summer i finally get things done and figure this writing thing out. so i've made that song sort of like a theme song for me while i try to do this.

a friend from my creative writing class last fall has found a few publishing options that sound really cool.

for instance, amazon.com has a great deal for self-publishing. it costs $3000, but you get 20 books, 25% royalty on books sold, and the books will be sold online! it's huge! plus you can buy them from the publisher (for family or selling yourself etc) for 70% off the wholesale price! not bad.

plus, there's no editor to hack your work to bits. and you get to keep the rights! so of course, if your book does any good at all, you can then take the name you've made for yourself to the big shot publishing houses and have a better chance.

well, my goal is to have the first 2 books of the trilogy i started in high school finished by september. i mean, they're finished. but they suck. you can tell i was young when i wrote them. and there are gaps in the story that need to be addressed. so it's a lot of fixing and editing and formatting and bullshit. but getting it all done by september isn't an unreasonable goal. i expect to finish that and more by september.

so, anyone want to loan me $3000 cdn? i'll pay you back when i'm a well-known author. ...maybe even richer than the queen, like jk rowling! heh.

daily dose of george carlin:

'how-to' titles
*how to style your hair with a bullwhip
*how to rent out the space inside your nose
*how to kill a rat with a paper clip
*how to spot truly vicious people in church
